Competition organized by the Velha-a-Branca cultural association for the rehabilitation of four adjoining buildings facing the Srª Branca garden, a central location within the city. The challenge was to rethink the interior of these buildings, which have a clear patrimonial significance, so as to obtain several units. We proposed a sensitive renovation design that respects the integrity and veracity of the existing building construction. The most significant architectural details are preserved: staircases, skylights, masonry, carpentry, as well as the timber framing. The proposed typologies for the units respond to the needs of contemporary living and tendencies. Exterior spaces include private parking, and a new plan that incoporates a public area served by leisure facilities and a new building that organizes an entryway to the north. In this new building exists a multipurpose area, to be used by the inhabitants of the newly rehabilitated complex, with a beautiful view over the city of Braga.
